Game On Spotlight: Z-Type

The Mozilla Gaming Blog just published a guest post by yours truly. I write about the creation process, graphics and gameplay aspects of Z-Type, complain about HTML5 Audio and, of course, advertise my JavaScript Game Engine Impact.

Please enjoy Game On Spotlight: Z-Type.

I found this game StumbleUpon. I very much enjoy, it's quite addicting. The lack of information is puzzling. So many questions. I don't see a score - is it simply achieving the next level? Are there any instructions other than typing the words, such as pause, replay, save game on exit, and so on? Options such as full screen, sound level? I ask because it is hard to find an addicting game that is also very simple. Thank you!

Great game.
Just one thing. When 'Search for text when I start typing' is enabled on Firefox, the game doesn't capture the 'y' letter.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 on GNU/Linux.

Hey there, great game!
Really good to polish those old typing skills ;)
Just one thing apart from those lynda mentioned:
It would be really cool if you could start at a higher level, so I don't have to always start at level 1, say if I already made it to level 20 or something...

Yeah I agree with dD ...you should make it where we can somehow start off where we lost(maybe a password code) to start off at a higher level...

Thanks so much for adding the bit about HTML 5 audio - There is simply not enough ranting about it and 'okay-ish' was the most generous description yet!

This game is not stable, the Firefox keep crashing, few times, so I cannot set my highscore.

The game is very good but really slow given its simplicity...

this game is genius, and addicting, I got to level 27 and then for some reason getting nervous, and surrender to attacking words :)

hey, great job!
If you could use a database for the words with 2 languages. So the shown word is "to go" and the player has to type the german word "gehen" to solve it.

Would be great, if the game uses the data from a CSV-file or something like that and the player can fill it...

bye bye martin@steinherr.de

Beautiful and simple game - found it through Chrome Store. You probably moved on to new things by now and the game doesn't 'need' anything more. However the entry comments above are true, I would also like a highscore save facility.

Personally I would also enjoy it if each level's words had a theme to them, perhaps from a quotation/speech. It would suggest an added depth to the game.

Well done, nice work!

Is there a way to edit the words in each level? I'm trying to teach English as a second language to a bunch of teenagers, and if i can edit these words by a simple interface (maybe you can share some of the source code?) i'll be able to increase their writing speed + spelling at the same time.
